Safety Equipment A Pleasure Craft Should Carry
Posted in boat safety
Of course all boats should carry safety gear, but larger boats such as a pleasure craft over 13.7 metres must carry particular life-saving and fire equipment at all times.
- Lifejackets – Everyone on board must have a life jacket. Whoever is in charge of the boat has the responsibility of making sure the lifejackets fit properly and also how they should be used by the passengers.
- Lifebuoys – You will need to carry two lifebuoys and make sure that they’re mounted in a place allowing you to throw them quickly in case of an emergency.
- Flares – The boat will need to carry: 2 orange smoke flares, 4 red hand flares, 4 white hand flares and 4 parachute flares.
- Fire Extinguishers – You will need to carry at least: 4 multi-purpose fire extinguishers, 2 fire buckets and a fire pump which can deliver 1 jet of water from a distance of approximately 6 metres.
