Painting your Boat Hull

It can be a bit of a chore but painting a boat hull is important if you want it to last and remain in decent condition. Remember to make sure you hull is nice and clean before you start paining whilst occasionally it will be important to completely strip the paint and start over.

If you strip and sand the paint and start again, you’re next layer will last longer, and the paint underneath is just as important as the top layer of paint, so if you can always start a fresh. You can then start to apply the paint, and we’d recommend that you will always use a roller.

If you paint 3 to 4 layers then you will have a nice finish and you should not sand or prep between layers. The waterline can often do with an extra couple of layers because that is where the majority of the impact will be, but the decision is yours. Remember a nicely painted boat is not just good for decoration, it is crucial in terms of maintaining the boat’s condition.
