Things to consider when buying your first narrow boat
There are plenty of reasons to buy a narrow boat. You get a great deal of space, comfort and peace when you invest in this type of boat, but there’ no denying the fact that it’s an extremely big purchase.
Caution is required
You do have to be careful when you’re buying a narrow boat and treat it like you’re buying a house. Every inch of the boat should be inspected, and if you’re unsure on how good or bad its condition is, you should hire a boating specialist to take a look with you. Don’t just think about interior items like the cooker, seating, curtains and beds as these can all be changed, look at the structure of the boat.
- Are the walls strong?
- is there good quality flooring?
- How’s the quality of the roof and are there signs of leaks?
- Does the bottom of the boat need any work?
- Is the paintwork up to scratch?
These are just a few of the questions you need to answer, but we really do advise you go over the boat with a fine toothcomb before you make an offer.
