One of the most exciting parts about boating is skimming along the water at high speed. However, with the increased speed comes greater risks, and a need for a high level of awareness. It can take a lot of time and skill to master traveling at speed in any vessel, but there are a few things that anyone can take on board before they head out.

• If in doubt, take the power off and reduce the closing speeds of vessels.
• If a potential crash may occur, take early action to try to avoid the situation.
• Try to avoid situations which involve rapid changes in direction such as weaving around obstacles or moving through tight spaces.
